Today, we’re celebrating International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
A significant gender gap has persisted throughout the years at all levels of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines all over the world. Even though women have made tremendous progress towards increasing their participation in higher education, they are still under-represented in these fields.
Today, just 30% of researchers worldwide, and only 35% of all students enrolled in STEM related fields of study are women. Despite these setbacks, women and girls continue to lead innovation and ground-breaking research. They are inspiring role models for our future generation, hence bridging the gender gap in STEM is vital.
At Asphalion, women represent a 68% of the company, and women at the technical team account for an astounding 66,3%. This shows our commitment towards empowering women in science. Unfortunately, these figures are not common in the STEM disciplines, but if we get to work together, we can make the trend shift.
Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls will make a crucial contribution not only to economic development of the world, but to progress across many other goals and targets, as well.
The world needs science, and science needs women and girls.
