On World AIDS Day 2025, WHO joins partners and communities under the theme “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response,” calling for sustained political leadership, international cooperation, and human-rights-centred approaches to end AIDS by 2030.
After decades of progress, the global HIV response stands at a crossroads. Life-saving services continue to face disruptions, and many communities remain at heightened risk. Yet amid these challenges, hope lies in the determination, resilience and innovation of the communities who tirelessly work to end AIDS.
Key global figures from 2024 remind us of the urgency:
- 40.8 million people were living with HIV worldwide
- Approximately 630,000 people died from HIV-related causes
- 1.3 million people acquired HIV
Communities affected by HIV — including networks of key populations, youth leaders and civil-society groups — remain essential in advancing prevention, testing and treatment, fostering trust, creating innovative solutions, advocating for health, and overseeing policy and programme implementation.
At Asphalion, we remain strongly committed to the global goal of ending AIDS by 2030. Our involvement goes beyond regulatory expertise: we actively contribute to awareness creation, collaborate in AIDS-related projects, and support initiatives that drive innovation in prevention, diagnosis and treatment. We believe that empowering communities and sharing knowledge is key to transforming the AIDS response, and we work every day to help move this mission forward.
This afternoon we will host a workshop at our headquarters led by Dr Christian Brander, one of the leading experts in HIV immunology. We will share more details later today.
