Last week, Asphalion Expert Oriol Verdú attended the ASGCT Annual Meeting in Boston — one of the leading global events in gene and cell therapy, bringing together scientists, industry leaders, and innovators to discuss the latest advances shaping the future of advanced therapies.

During the congress, Oriol had the opportunity to present his poster, “Current gaps and challenges in CMC aspects of gene therapy medicinal products development in Europe”, showcasing his work supported by grant 2024 DI 00052 from Doctorats Industrials. His research identified key CMC challenges in gene therapy development through a review of available evidence and proposed strategies to address them, with the goal of supporting the continuous evolution of regulatory frameworks and facilitating the translation of gene therapy products from development to commercial application.

A key highlight of the event was the strong focus on regulatory innovation for rare disease therapies, reflecting the growing need for more agile and tailored frameworks to support the development of advanced treatments in areas of high unmet medical need.

The event also provided a valuable opportunity to exchange insights with international experts and discuss emerging trends in ATMP development, reinforcing the importance of collaboration across the field.
