Asphalion is the regulatory partner for a successfully funded Horizon 2020 project entitled “Microbiome-based stratification of individuals at risk of HIV-1 acquisition, chronic clinical complications, antimicrobial drug resistance, and unresponsiveness to therapeutic HIV-1 vaccination”, MISTRAL.
The project coordinated by IrsiCaixa will be carried out in collaboration with ten other institutions from Spain, France, Denmark, the USA and Sweden.
With a budget of ten million euros the scientists will analyse the role of the intestinal microbiome in HIV infection with the objective of designing treatments to prevent HIV infection, reinforce the immune system, control the progression of the infection and improve the response to potential vaccinations against the virus.
This 5-year project has been granted under the H2020 call: Stratified host-directed approaches to improve prevention, treatment and/or cure of infectious diseases.
