Francisco Rodríguez, Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Officer at Asphalion, has been awarded a grant from the Government of Catalonia (Doctorats industrials, Edició 2020) to conduct his doctoral thesis on Regulatory Science within the Medical Devices team of the Company. His research will be on Regulatory Aspects of Medical Technology Applications of Nanomedicine, and he will be supervised by Dr. Pilar Rivera, from University Pompeu Fabra, as well as by Dr. Oriol Penon, Business Development Manager, and Dr. Dominique Monferrer, Medical Devices Director, from Asphalion.
The doctoral thesis aims to investigate a range of emerging issues in the field of nanotechnology, its implications for regulatory science in general (the scientific and technical foundations on which regulations are based in various industries), and more specifically for medical devices and in vitro diagnostics involving nanotechnology. The research aims to help clarifying the current challenges around “MedTech” nanotechnology applications from a regulatory perspective, identify relevant gaps and contribute in the development of new standards and / or guidelines in the field.
