On 16–17 July 2026, the ETERNAL consortium gathered in Manchester for its Month 47 meeting, one of the final key milestones before the EU-funded project officially concludes on 31 August 2026. Asphalion experts Diego Hernández and Mario López attended the final meeting.
The meeting offered an opportunity to review the progress made across the consortium’s joint activities and to align on the final steps of the project. It also marked the last in-person meeting dedicated to sharing updates on collaborative actions, making it a particularly meaningful occasion for partners to reflect on the journey so far and close this phase of the project on a warm and positive note.
Among the main outcomes highlighted in Manchester was the publication of the policy brief “Towards a Green Pharmaceutical Future in Europe”, developed by the informal Green Pharma Cluster, which brings together five Horizon Europe projects: ETERNAL, ENVIROMED, IMPACTIVE, SusPharma, and TransPharm.
The policy brief, which has been agreed with the European Commission, presents a joint set of recommendations aimed at addressing gaps in the current pharmaceutical regulatory framework to better enable environmental sustainability. Importantly, these proposed actions support the integration of new technologies and the development of more sustainable medicines, while fully maintaining product quality and patient safety.
Within ETERNAL, Asphalion led this deliverable under Task 5.3.2, working closely with the four sister projects to develop a common policy position with practical, actionable proposals. By joining forces, the five projects were able to deliver a stronger and more coherent message than they would have done individually.
The publication of this policy brief marks the successful completion of this action. The next step now lies with the European Commission, which will close the Horizon project cycle and assess the recommendations put forward as part of future actions to advance sustainability in the pharmaceutical sector.
As ETERNAL approaches its conclusion, this milestone highlights the value of cross-project collaboration in translating research into concrete policy recommendations that can help shape a more sustainable future for healthcare in Europe.
