A stroke happens when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off. Without blood, brain cells can be damaged or die. The impact of stroke can be short- and long-term, depending on which part of the brain is affected and how quickly it is treated.
On World Stroke Day it is of utmost importance to raise awareness of the signs of stroke and the need for timely access to quality stroke treatment. Knowing the signs of stroke and seeking immediate emergency medical care can save lives and improve the outcome for survivors.
