✤ Today Asphalion goes pink in order to show its support and commitment to World Breast Cancer Day and to help raise awareness.
✤ Cancer is a disease that considerably affects a large number of the world population and according to recent estimates from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), female breast cancer has become the most commonly diagnosed cancer type in the world: about 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020, exceeding the number of new cases of lung cancer for the first time. Breast cancer caused about 685,000 deaths in 2020, becoming he most common cause of cancer death in women and the fifth most common cause of cancer death overall.
✤ The global burden of breast cancer mortality is marked by inequality. In 2020, half a million women in low- and middle-income countries died of breast cancer, which means almost three quarters of global deaths from the disease occurred in these countries.
✤ To limit the increases in breast cancer incidence and mortality early detection is key. Because of this, in order to give support to women who suffer from the disease the World Health Organization seeks to promote early detection, increasing awareness, treatment and palliative care of those who suffer from the pathology. A breast cancer detected at its beginning reduces the probability of death by 25%.
