This week, Asphalion Expert Oriol Verdú presented his poster, “Horizon Scanning of Platform Technologies for the Development of ATMPs”, at the 33rd ESGCT Annual Congress in Hamburg, Europe’s leading meeting on gene and cell therapy.
Supported by grant 2024 DI 00052 from Doctorats Industrials, Oriol’s research explores emerging platform technologies across the ATMP landscape through the analysis of scientific literature, patents and clinical trials. The goal is to identify innovations that could streamline development processes and help shape future regulatory frameworks for platform-based approaches.

A key topic throughout the congress was the need for regulatory innovation in rare disease therapies, where traditional development models are often hard to sustain. In this context, platform-based approaches are gaining momentum as a way to leverage existing knowledge across products, potentially accelerating the delivery of advanced therapies to patients with high unmet medical needs.
Beyond presenting his work, the congress provided a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives with scientists, regulators and industry experts from around the world, highlighting the importance of collaboration in advancing the future of ATMP development.
